Associate in Development of Low-carbon Bricks

This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in delivering a high-impact 34-month Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project with the University of Manchester (UoM) and Michelmersh Brick UK Ltd., focused on decarbonising clay brick manufacturing.

The project aims to develop and validate a sustainable bio-based alternative to fossil derived body fuel for use in premium clamp fired products, supporting the transition to lower carbon manufacturing.

The KTP Associate will coordinate activity across manufacturing operations, technical teams, academic researchers and external partners, translating research into practical solutions that can be implemented at scale within a live production environment. The role will involve planning and leading trials, ensuring product quality, process stability and supply resilience are maintained throughout.

Part funded through Innovate UK’s KTP programme, this role offers a unique opportunity to deliver meaningful industrial and environmental impact while developing technical leadership, project management and innovation delivery experience.

The Associate will be based primarily at Michelmersh’s Freshfield Lane site near Haywards Heath, Sussex, with periods spent at UoM to support collaboration and access specialist research facilities. (The Associate’s time in the lab in Manchester is likely to be split across 3 trips of 2-3 months duration each.)
