Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to steer a collaborative Knowledge Transfer Partnership between the University of Reading and Sustainable Food Trust (SFT), a charity whose mission is to accelerate the transition to sustainable food and farming systems.

We are seeking a motivated and adaptable Research Associate to lead the development of a resource pack for the Global Farm Metric (GFM) framework. This resource pack will provide practical, actionable guidance on different use cases for the framework and assessing individual categories within the GFM, supporting sustainability transformations across the agri-food sector.

In this role, you will collaborate with world-renowned tool and framework developers to ensure the resource pack aligns with cutting-edge practices in sustainability assessment.

Your work will involve:
● Reviewing the latest advancements in sustainability assessment.
● Identifying tools and frameworks with the potential to drive meaningful change.
● Partnering with diverse stakeholders, including research and development organisations, SMEs, cooperatives, multinationals, extension services, farmer organisations, and NGOs.
● Engaging with users to define requirements, prioritise usability, and secure a lasting legacy for the resource pack.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to broaden your expertise, build a robust stakeholder network, and gain exposure to a wide array of food system challenges. You’ll also have the chance to shape your own research interests in alignment with the goals of the GFM.

This position is initially for a 24 month fixed term contract, employed by University of Reading, but working day-to-day within the SFT, where you will be immersed in a dynamic, mission-driven environment and supported through professional development opportunities, including training, conferences, webinars, and seminars. The post holder will be able to work remotely, with in person meetings held at SFT offices at 38 Richmond Street, Bristol, BS3 4TQ and occasional travel to the University of Reading.

This role must start no later than 23rd June 2025 due to funding requirements.
