Job description
We are seeking an ambitious, talented and motivated individual to be at the centre of an innovative KTP with The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) – a leading independent school and registered charity.
The 30 month project seeks to develop and embed an innovative approach to develop the Physical Literacy of young people (defined by Sport England as ‘our relationship with movement and physical activity throughout life’) leading to improved health, wellbeing and academic achievement.
The project will see robust evaluation of existing Physical Literacy policies and practices across the various school contexts (Physical Education, school sport, recreational periods, active travel and during academic lessons) and will result in the co-creation of new interventions and resources which can be delivered internally and externally.
This is an exciting evolution of the school curriculum that creates a distinct profile for GSAL resulting in a sector-leading approach that will support a more innovative educational environment for students and create opportunities for commercial exploitation.
This role is supported by a multi-disciplinary team of academic experts from Leeds Beckett University’s Carnegie School of Sport.
We encourage applications from graduates in Physical Education or Sport Science related subjects. You must be a self-starter with excellent critical thinking and project management skills and should have knowledge and insight into Physical Literacy concepts and frameworks alongside a passion for working with children and young people.
Project description
The successful candidate will work with stakeholders across the business and have the support of an experienced multi-disciplinary academic team from Leeds Beckett University to:
• Evaluate GSAL’s existing policies, curriculum and resources in relation to Physical Literacy – considering approaches, strategies and efficacy from both staff and pupils perspectives across various school contexts (Physical Education, Sport, recreational periods, active travel and during academic lessons)
• Establish a framework for the ongoing assessment of pupils’ physical literacy , measure changes in student outcomes, and develop an action plan for future interventions and improvements.
• Collaborate with GSAL stakeholders (e.g., school leadership, teachers, coaches, pupils) to co-design the curriculum, programmes and practices to support and enrich every pupil’s Physical Literacy .
• Contribute to internal training initiatives equipping GSAL staff with the knowledge and skills to effectively implement interventions across multiple contexts.
• Work with GSAL to transfer knowledge and best practice to local state schools via a Physical Literacy day at GSAL, school visits and through the creation of resources.
• The creation of resources, including CPD workshops, procedures and protocols that can be utilised internally and for consultancy and commercialisation.
• Work closely with GSAL PE and Sport across both primary and senior schools in relation to PE and games lessons, sports clubs and when necessary, Saturday sport.
