Job description

You will be supported by an interdisciplinary team from the University, led by Enrico Tubaldi, with expertise in advanced
modelling of masonry structures and soil-structure interaction systems. You will also have support from a Senior
Company Supervisor.

Main Activities/Responsibilities:

– Conducting advanced assessments of masonry structures and soil-structure interaction systems using non conventional methods typically limited to research.

– The Associate must quickly develop expertise in complex numerical modelling approaches, (e.g. discrete macro element modelling), and soil-structure interaction.

– Perform non-destructive assessments, analyse sensor data to reduce uncertainty in structural condition, and
address risk assessment and communication for heritage structures. Additionally, the Associate will train Will
Rudd’s engineering team on these advanced topics.

– The Associate must engage effectively with end-users (historic trusts, local authorities, agencies), understand
their needs, and demonstrate how the project’s tools can address the complex challenges they face. They must
also navigate diverse markets, adapting to varying customer and regulatory requirements (e.g. BS standards, UKSPECHRB, Eurocode standards).

– Project management is a key aspect, requiring the Associate to balance technical development with
commercialisation efforts to maximise the project’s impact. This involves coordinating with WRD colleagues to
ensure that both technical solutions and business outcomes align with project’s goals. The role demands
adaptability, a multidisciplinary skillset, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

– Preparation and delivery of occasional training and educational events to technical and non-technical audiences.

Project description

To embed advanced modelling and monitoring strategies for assessment and analysis of new and heritage masonry structures.
