Project description
The University of Essex (UoE) in partnership with The Hepatitis C Trust (HTC) offers an exciting opportunity to a graduate with the relevant skills and knowledge to design, co-ordinate and implement a new strategic approach to apply the organisational expertise of lived experience support models to a broader range of applications.
At the Hepatitis C Trust, our aspiration is to broaden our delivery of peer-led support models for marginalised or disadvantaged communities, guided by lived experience, to an increased number of communities and wider range of purposes than previously. The project will support the HCT in thinking about diversification of their current offering as well as bringing a new perspective on programme design for return-to-work practice. Comparative analysis of other lived-experience support programmes in other countries will provide context and learning opportunities.
Due to the nature of the work, this appointment is subject to a criminal record check, known as a Disclosure.
About the business
The Hepatitis C Trust (HCT) is a national charity that works with people who face severe health inequalities, including people who have hepatitis C and other health needs. With more than 300 staff and volunteers, we are one of the biggest lived experience organisations working in Inclusion Health in the UK. Our teams work in every community NHS area in England, and in every prison, conducting outreach and providing a link between health services and the people they struggle to engage. We also work in parts of Scotland and Wales.
Almost all of our staff and volunteers have lived experience relevant to the work they do and the people they support, typically of addictions, the criminal justice system, homelessness and other exclusions. Our work on hepatitis C has transformed services, bringing lived experience teams into the heart of NHS provision to revolutionise access for excluded populations. Within this, we support and develop volunteers to work with us and move into paid employment. We’re expanding into cancer prevention, harm reduction, needle exchange, and many other areas. Simultaneously, our volunteer programme is enabling people who have spent years out of work to re-enter paid employment. Building on this, and strengthening understanding of the power of lived experience, is a central part of our current organisational strategy.
