Job description

The KTP project will be fully supported with expertise from the University of Hull and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service.

You will be supported to continue your personal and professional development throughout the project, acquiring new transferable skills that will enhance your employability; a £4000 budget is available to support this training. The project offers the potential to undertake a higher degree (although this is not a requirement of the post).

For the right candidate there are excellent prospects for obtaining permanent employment with Humberside Fire and Rescue Service at the end of the KTP project.

We are looking for a candidate who has an honours degree (preferably at the 2:1 level or above) – and potentially a Masters qualification or a doctorate – in a relevant business or environmental discipline. As well as this, you will need:

  • Good theoretical and applied knowledge of data analysis
  • The ability to validate environmental analytical data to ensure data quality objectives
  • An understanding of carbon creation, carbon mapping and carbon capture techniques would be an advantage.
  • Good communication and project management skills
  • Be able to demonstrate and embody the Core Code of Ethics that govern all activity within UK fire and rescue services: Integrity, Leadership, dignity and respect, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and putting our communities first.

Project description

Humberside Fire & Rescue Service keep the communities within East Riding of Yorkshire, Hull, North and North-East Lincolnshire a safer place 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Their key remit is to save lives, reduce injuries and losses through fire and other emergencies and reduce the number of incidents.

This KTP project will enable Humberside Fire & Rescue Service to gain significant insight into their impact on the environment through embedded carbon mapping capacity and capability. This will allow them to demonstrate leadership in their sector and give them the basis to reduce impact and deliver future continuous improvement and efficiency savings.

This project is a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) – part of a national, Government-supported initiative, which provides graduates with fast-track career opportunities through work on challenging technical & IT projects (for more information click here)

About the business

The key objective is to achieve these ambitions while delivering cost efficiencies within constrained public sector budgets.
