Job description

We’re looking for an associate to lead the day-to-day delivery of an exciting Innovate UK-funded Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between the University of Sunderland and iPac Packaging Innovations. You’ll help design and implement a cutting-edge, data-driven manufacturing environment—bringing technologies like Digital Twin, automation, and predictive analytics into real-world production.

You’ll be employed by the University of Sunderland as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership Associate, but based primarily at iPac’s Gateshead site. Working closely with academic and industry experts, you’ll drive innovation that boosts efficiency, reduces waste, and helps position iPac as a trailblazer in smart manufacturing.

Project description

The project aims to revolutionise the business partner’s manufacturing operations by integrating advanced data analytics, Digital Twin technology, and process improvement methodologies. Our vision is to create a cutting-edge, data-driven environment that maximises operational efficiency, minimises waste, and enhances competitiveness in the manufacturing industry.

The KTP Associate will be expected to:

  • Lead the day-to-day on-site delivery of project objectives, including process mapping, analysis of existing systems, and identification of optimisation opportunities within the manufacturing environment.
  • Design, test, and implement data capture and analytics systems to support digital transformation and production efficiency.
  • Apply and embed Industry 4.0 methodologies, including automation, Digital Twin technologies, and predictive analytics, to enhance iPac’s operational performance.
  • Collaborate with technical staff and leadership to identify process improvement areas, propose solutions, and support change management initiatives.
  • Define a personal development plan in collaboration with company and academic supervisors, and attend all required KTP training, events, and progress review meetings
  • Provide regular progress updates to company and university supervisors, helping to maintain focus on outcomes, address operational challenges, and ensure effective project governance.
  • Maintain accurate records of all meetings and decisions, contributing to reporting, performance reviews, and future development planning.
