Job description

Main accountabilities

  • Plan own day-to-day activity to deliver the project objectives as detailed in the KTP project proposal.
  • Transfer knowledge in phased-array ultrasonic testing (PAUT), AI/ML signal processing, and industrial inspection workflows to the company.
  • Maintain an up-to-date project plan and provide progress reports for presentation at regular Local Management Committee (LMC) meetings.
  • Forecast and monitor project finances.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • The post holder, working with colleagues from ESR Technology Ltd and Brunel University London, will design, implement and analyze phased-array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) experiments and AI-driven signal processing workflows for corrosion under pipe supports (CUPS), linking inspection parameters and wave propagation behavior to defect detection, sizing and confidence quantification.
  • The role will act as a liaison between the University and ESR Technology Ltd, enabling and ensuring knowledge is transferred between the two organizations and embedded within ESR Technology Ltd for future development and commercialization.
  • The output of this project is to deliver a validated PAUT + AI inspection workflow (M-SKIP2) and sector-relevant demonstrators that meet agreed performance targets, and to embed the know-how, software tools, procedures and documentation within ESR’s inspection and R&D teams.
  • The post holder will also gain and apply expertise in phased-array ultrasonics, wave-path modelling, AI/ML signal processing, uncertainty quantification, and standards-aligned validation and qualification across both laboratory (Brunel) and industrial settings.

The role will also require:

  • Presenting at conferences and interaction with peers.
  • Liaising and interacting with customers and end users to identify requirements.
  • Production of relevant technical papers, reports and presentations.
