Job Purpose
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships are part of a national Government-supported initiative, enabling graduates (KTP Associates) to work on exciting and challenging projects in partnership between business and universities. This is an opportunity to fast track your career by managing a strategic technical project.
Innovate UK are funding Woodcock and Wilson and the University of Huddersfield via a Knowledge Transfer Partnership to develop a novel AI powered system to support internal staff training and improve customer support services.
As the Artificial Intelligence Engineer (KTP Associate), you will be responsible for the successful management and delivery of this 27-month project, with the advice and guidance of both company and university-based supervisors.
You will quickly gain an understanding of the company and their requirements to develop an innovative artificial intelligence system that can transform customer support and staff training operations. The system will enable 24/7 support availability to customers globally and facilitate knowledge access and retrieval for employees that may be less experienced. Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. General management of the project, taking leadership for meeting objectives.
2. Review and analyse the relevant AI technology landscape, including competitor analysis.
3. Analyse and evaluate company processes and documentation.
4. Conduct knowledge acquisition, formalisation, engineering and integration as required.
5. Conduct analysis, tuning and augmentation of large language models.
6. Design, develop, test, deploy and maintain intelligent software solutions, including conversational agents.
7. Prepare and produce research reports, progress reports and other documentation as appropriate.
8. Deliver workshops and training sessions to company employees.
9. Lead and participate outreach and showcase events in relation to the developed solutions.
10. Participate in team meetings, committees, and conferences as appropriate.
11. Comply with University and company policies and regulations within the remit of the role.
12. Undertake other duties directed by or in agreement with the academic and industry supervisors.
Person Specification
To be considered for this vacancy, you must be able to demonstrate the following attributes:
Qualifications
•
2:1 or above first degree in artificial intelligence, computer science, or a closely related area, or experience that demonstrates appropriate knowledge and skills at an Honours degree level.
Experience
•
Experience in software development using Python or other languages, including the use of APIs.
•
Experience in the design and development of artificial intelligence and intelligent systems.
•
Industry experience.
•
Experience of working on projects involving conversational and/or generative AI.
Knowledge and Abilities
•
Good communication skills, written and verbal.
•
Effective presentation skills.
•
Ability to work as part of a team.
•
Self-motivated, innovative and an ability to work flexibly and independently.

Project description
You will have a 2:1 or above first degree in artificial intelligence, computer science, or a closely related area, or experience that demonstrates appropriate knowledge and skills at an Honours degree level. As you will be liaising with company staff, management, and customers you will need excellent people and communication skills and the drive and initiative to deliver and embed new knowledge within the company.
This KTP is a 27-month project between the University of Huddersfield (School of Computing and Engineering) and Woodcock & Wilson Ltd. The package includes a technical and personal training allowance plus the opportunity to register for a CMI Diploma in Management. KTP Associates are also encouraged to attain membership of a professional organisation.
