Job description
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Delivery and management of research and knowledge translation (KT) tasks
Undertake and support research activities related to the project. Develop and carry out aspects of the project work programme using methodology and techniques appropriate to this type of research, e.g.:
- Investigations leading to the discovery of new knowledge.
- Experimental design and methodology development.
- Data collection, analysis and interpretation of results, bringing new insights through integration of complex datasets, report writing and presentation to partners and potential clients.
- Application of knowledge in practice, out of which new intellectual understanding emerges.
- Plan and produce independent original research.
- Take responsibility for organising resources and effective decision-making in support of research.
Publications
Disseminate and publish high-quality journals and conference papers.
Support Cranfield colleagues in delivering a Research Excellence Framework (REF) Impact case study relating to supply chain management, food loss, food decision support tools, and bioinformatics.
Individual and Moulton Bulb Company Ltd profile raising through authoring and submission of articles to high-impact peer-reviewed science journals, and other industry publications.
2. Project Management
Manage the project on a day-to-day basis, including disseminating regular relevant project updates to the relevant stakeholders.
3. Cost-benefit analysis
Work with Moulton Bulb Company Ltd’s senior team to develop a business case needed to take implantation forward.
4. Personal development and Knowledge base, and company, induction
- Personal development activities.
- Contribute to the effective operation of Moulton Bulb Company Ltd, ensuring that KTP activities compy with all relevant environmental sustainability, ethical and health and safety policies of Moulton Bulb Company Ltd and Cranfield University.
You will be based at Moulton Bulb Company Ltd in Spalding, with occasional travel to Cranfield University and Moulton Bulb partners within the supply chain.
Project description
As a KTP Associate, you will mainly be based at Moulton Bulb Company Ltd in Spalding, but will work closely with a team of academics – Dr Carol Verheecke-Vaessen, Dr Lembe Magwaza and Professor Wilfred Otten – within the Centre for Soil, Agrifood and Biosciences (SABS), located within the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Cranfield University.
The aim of the KTP is to embed new knowledge and expertise that will transform industry understanding of fungal contamination caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cepae, reducing onion losses from field to market. They will also need to understand that the developments that are made through this project will need to be sense-checked to ensure they make commercial sense.
