Data Scientist (KTP Associate)
Based in Greenock
Up to £40k per annum with potential for performance-based bonus, £4k personal development budget, and an opportunity to register free to charge for a higher degree (Masters or PhD)
Full time: 35 hours per week
Fixed Term: 25 months

THE POST – Data Scientist (KTP Associate)
We seek a Data Scientist to develop data analytical capabilities by leveraging company’s in-house and external data, to develop actionable insight for client engagement, retention, and experience. This role is also required development of Apps for secure and traceable document management. You will benefit from direct engagement and support from both the company senior management and academic teams and there is potential for post project employment subject to performance.

The successful candidate should have the following:
MSc in Computer/ Data Science, Electronic Engineering (2.1)
Experience on Data Architecture & Pipeline Development. Ability to design and implement scalable data architectures, automated data pipelines, and workflows to collect, process, and store data for future use, ensuring data quality and accessibility.
Experience on Data Governance & Compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) by establishing governance processes, including data retention, encryption, and access control.
Experience on database management. Ability to manage and integrate databases, ensuring secure, well-structured, and easily retrievable data for analysis and decision-making.
Experience in development and application of Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning and explainable AI algorithms
Experience in software design, documentation and management. High level Python and Java programming experience.
Experience in Data Engineering (ETL/ELT processes, stream analytics), preferably with cloud and external data sources. Ability to design, develop and manage cloud services e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP.
Experience in requirement gathering and team working in business context.
Experience in project management and project documentation
Strong organisational skills, methodical problem-solving, and attention to detail.

The successful candidate will be employed by the University of the West of Scotland but will be based at PG Paper Head Office in Greenock. The associate will be fully supported by both company staff and staff from the School of Computing, Engineering & Physical Sciences at the University and will receive a £4k personal development budget. In addition, the associate will receive mentoring support from a local KTP Advisor. We are the only Scottish University to have a dedicated KTP centre, meaning you are fully supported throughout your time with the company by UWS staff.

This Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project between PG Paper and the University of the West of Scotland (UWS), will deliver scalable and explainable data analytical capabilities to develop actionable insight to PG Paper’s client engagement, retention, and experience processes. The project focuses on developing end-to-end data science pipeline, extracting information from company’s in-house data stores, historical records, and external data sources, to deliver data driven decision-making whist maximising returns for the company. The capabilities embedded from this project, will help to achieve profitable engagement strategies driven by data, and come up with situation centric models having potential to positively transform operations for PG Paper.
