Job description

You will have a key role in developing and leading the implementation of an AI Virtual Assistant (VA) that aids architects during all stages of an architecture project. The purpose of the VA is to become a part of the team of architects & creatives in order to instil a curious and inventive mindset that will enable higher productivity, creativity, design ability and accuracy by utilising the latest generative AI models and big data.

This position is initially for a 26 month fixed term contract, employed by the University of Reading, but working day to day within HawkinsBrown. The postholder will be expected to be based 3-4 days per week in the HawkinsBrown studio at 30 Clerkenwell Road, London, EC1M 5PG to maximise integration with an aspect of the architectural business.

The KTP Associate in Generative AI Applications will be employed by the University of Reading, working closely with Dr Oliveira as well as Professor Keiichi Nakata and Dr Giannis Haralabopoulos, but immersed in the HawkinsBrown team for their daily work.

The KTP Associate is expected to:

  1. Be responsible for developing and implementing an innovative Generative AI and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) based solution for HawkinsBrown architects.
  2. Participate in training sessions related to the project, as well as define own training plan to improve technical and/or soft skills related and demanded by the position.
  3. Develop an understanding of current pain points and inefficiencies within the creative process through meetings, interviews, and workshops.
  4. Participate in ideation meetings with a team of architects to understand and map the ideation process.
  5. Prepare documentation that delineates a step by step ideation process of an architectural project.
  6. Collaborate and work closely with the HawkinsBrown’s IT team to identify, retrieve, clean and prepare historical data that will be used to feed and train the AI system.
  7. Plan and execute data cleansing of the data, organise it and lead initiatives to create the data architecture and data lakes that will be used to train AI models.
  8. Lead, engage and coordinate regular meetings with members of the company and the academic team to brainstorm, define and decide the best strategies, tools, and techniques necessary to build the new AI solution.
  9. Prepare presentations with updates about the progress of the project and present in regular local management committee meetings.
  10. Create the AI architecture utilising open-source large language models, generative AI and retrieval-augmented generation, or any other necessary AI techniques to develop and implement an innovative AI solution at HawkinsBrown.
