Job description
1. Project manage the delivery of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership work plan (with extensive support from both company and academic supervisors), which includes the following stages:
a. Saturn Turbo Services Ltd (STSL) Business Model Familiarisation
b. Mechanical & Digital Engineering Methodology / Technology Familiarisation
c. Design and Implementation of a reverse engineering and new part design function combined with the integration of material specification data sources.
d. Design and Implementation of an Automated Manufacturing facility
e. Digital Integration of reverse engineering, new part design and manufacturing facilites.
f. Integration of a digital monitoring and reporting environment.
g. Knowledge embedding and training with STSL.
2. Co-author and present academic papers to relevant journals/conferences.
3. Contribute to KTP evaluation and final reports.
4. Adhere to the University’s & Saturn Turbo Services Ltd’s Health and Safety Policy and guidelines.
5. Adhere to the General Data Protection and The Data Protection Act 2018.
6. Promote Equality and Diversity for staff and students and embrace the University’s Values and Behaviours Framework.
7. Any other reasonable duties that may be allocated from time to time commensurate with the grading of the post.
Project description
KTP Aim: To implement a new optimised part design and automated manufacturing facility, enabled by Industry 4.0 technology integration.
KTP Project Summary: Working with Saturn Turbo Services Ltd (STSL) who are specialists in the inspection, repair and maintenance of steam turbines and compressors; including new part design and manufacture. You will be based at STSL’s workshops at Wilton International in Redcar & Cleveland, your role will be to support the implementation of a new optimised part design and automated manufacturing facility, enabled by Industry 4.0 technology integration. You will have support from a multidisciplinary team of academics from Teesside University surrounding, manufacturing design (including reverse engineering, materials and additive manufacturing ) alongside industry 4.0 integration technologies.
About the business
Saturn Turbo Services Ltd (STSL) was founded in 2021. and delivers customised solutions for the inspection, repair, and maintenance of steam turbines and compressors; alongside the auxiliary systems utilised within turbo machinery more generally. STSL also offer reverse engineering of components (some dating back to the 1940s) where products reiterations have ceased and are obsolete. STSL look at material and technological advancements to design and manufacture better performing products. Current market sectors include air separation within oil & gas, petrochemical and power.
