Job description

The Associate should have a broad understanding of IoT technologies and energy monitoring systems, knowledge of ground source heat pumps/solar panels and with practical experience of thermal energy systems, IoT energy management, energy performance monitoring in buildings and R&D.

You’ll be supported by experienced academics at London Met as well as Better Planet’s team of subject matter experts. A £4,000 package is available for training and development purposes.

Main duties and responsibilities

Planning/Project Management/Specialist knowledge

  • Demonstrate the system’s ability to effectively capture fabric heat as a supplementary source
  • Develop and prototype the heat source system, optimising materials and integration in a test environment
  • Refine the KTP workplan to ensure it is fit for current business priorities and will deliver required results
  • Effectively manage the delivery of the KTP project, liaising with all stakeholders as required and producing reporting documents for Local Management Committee meetings
  • Monitor project expenditure according to budget

Analysis / Strategy Development

  • Report on findings from the test environment
  • Establish a scalable manufacturing strategy, evaluating production costs

Communication / Networking

  • Present regular reports, updates, and case studies to company to transfer knowledge and embed within the organisation
  • Produce clear process and procedure documents to support project implementation
  • Work with colleagues across the business and academic supervisory team to inform decision- making

Training Delivery

  • Design and deliver training workshops for stakeholders
  • Contribute to knowledge transfer activities at the university (journal papers, deliver seminars)
  • Attend industry or academic conferences to disseminate knowledge

Decision Making / Process Development/Problem Solving

  • Plan for future opportunities
  • Embed new processes across business to ensure knowledge transfer
  • Identify and mitigate and risks to successfully completing the project and in the post-project plan
  • Keep an accurate and up to date risk register

Project description

This is an exciting collaboration between London Metropolitan University and Better Planet (UK) Ltd, an innovative heat pump installation SME. The Associate will be based at in Potters Bar (EN6 4NQ), with the option of hybrid working.

The purpose of the KTP project is to develop a building fabric-integrated heat recovery system that significantly improves the viability of ground source heat pumps and solar PVT systems, improving thermal performance, and contributing to energy efficiency advancements in the built environment.

Key objectives include:

  • Demonstrating the system’s ability to effectively capture fabric heat as a supplementary source.
  • Developing and prototyping the heat source system, optimising materials and integration.
  • Establishing a scalable manufacturing strategy, evaluating production costs.
