Job description
This ambitious project is currently underway and includes two KTP Associate roles: one focused on machine learning and computer vision, and a second focused on operational optimisation. The Operational Optimisation Associate is already in post and working with the business. This vacancy provides an opportunity to join an established project and lead the continued development and delivery of the machine learning and computer vision workstream. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in designing, training and deploying intelligent systems for automated damage assessment.
The Associate will work at the intersection of AI (i.e. Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Image Analysis etc.) and industrial application, applying advanced techniques to real-world challenges. They will collaborate closely with ABL’s technical team and academic supervisors to further develop, refine and deploy an AI-powered system that combines deep learning with practitioner expertise. The core objectives include automating visual damage assessment for faster and more consistent repair estimates, learning from a large dataset of annotated repair records and expert input, and embedding AI tools seamlessly within ABL’s operational workflows.
This KTP will embed critical capabilities into ABL, including computer vision models, human-in-the loop learning, and intelligent interfaces, laying the foundation for scalable, data-driven decision making across the business. The role presents an exceptional opportunity for a motivated candidate to lead applied AI innovation in a commercially driven and well-supported environment. The successful associate will also benefit from structured mentoring, academic guidance, and professional development as part of the KTP scheme—gaining experience that bridges both academic research and industry practice.
This role forms part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), a collaborative project between ABL 1 Touch and the University of Portsmouth, awarded by Innovate UK. Please refer to the additional information on becoming a KTP Associate attached to this advert.
This position will be based at ABL 1 Touch, Floor 2 Reigate Place, 43 London Road, Reigate, Surrey, England, RH2 9PW. However, hybrid working arrangements can be discussed.
Candidates should be aware that relocation expenses are not supported as part of this role.
Project description
The project is developing AI-powered solutions that combine machine learning and computer vision to automate vehicle damage assessment and enhance operational decision-making. By leveraging ABL’s extensive repair data and technical expertise, the project aims to improve estimation accuracy, increase efficiency, and support the company’s continued growth.
The project is already underway, and the successful candidate will join an established team to further develop and deploy AI-driven solutions within the business.
