Job description
1. Manage the delivery of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) work plan
(You will receive strong support from both company and academic supervisors.)
(i) Learn about the business and project context – understand the business model, gain situational awareness, and update the project plan (Gantt chart) and risk register.
(ii) Learn the relevant technologies and methods – build the technical knowledge required for the AI‑assisted system
(iii) Develop and implement an AI‑driven geometry reconstruction prototype – design, create, and test an early version of the AI tool that rebuilds component geometry.
(iv) Develop the automated drawing and tolerance intelligence system – create systems that automatically generate technical drawings and apply appropriate tolerances.
(v) Scale up the solution for full component families – verify performance at scale and prepare the system for operational use.
(vi) Support commercialisation and long‑term use of the AI‑assisted drawing platform – help bring the solution to market and ensure it can operate sustainably within the business
2. Co-author and present academic papers to relevant journals/conferences.
3. Contribute to KTP evaluation and final reports.
4. Adhere to the University’s & Associate Pinnacle RE-Tec Ltd’s Health and Safety Policy and guidelines.
5. Adhere to the General Data Protection and The Data Protection Act 2018.
6. Promote Equality and Diversity for staff and students and embrace the s Values and Behaviours Frame
7. Any other reasonable duties that may be allocated from time to time commensurate with the grading of the post.

This position forms part of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programme which is part funded by Innovate UK.
It is essential you understand how KTP works with Business and University partners, and the vital role you will play if you successfully secure a KTP Associate position.

This position is initially for a 24-month fixed term contract. You will be employed by Teesside University but will be working at the business partner premises day to day. The business partner, Pinnacle RE-Tec Ltd is an engineering company, based in Consett (County Durham) which specialises in the reverse engineering, precision remanufacture, and refurbishment of complex rotating equipment including centrifugal pumps, gearboxes, compressors, and turbine components.
The appointed candidate will have 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays) and access to a dedicated £4k training budget tailored towards their personal development. They will have access to industry leading technology and supervision from a leading academic research team from Teesside University.
This KTP aims to develop an AI-assisted digital reverse-engineering capability that automatically converts 3D scan data of components for pumps and gearboxes into accurate, standards-compliant engineering drawings. The project will reduce design time, improve accuracy, and enable faster, more sustainable remanufacturing of critical industrial components.
