Spatial Design and Social Impact Lead – KTP Associate

This is a 24-month fixed-term post to deliver a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) project with SET.

Key duties and responsibilities

• Leading and delivering a high impact, strategic and innovative KTP project, in partnership with SET and the CSM Academic team
• Provide specialised expertise in architectural and spatial design, working independently to analyse, visualise and interpret data on vacant buildings, and to propose retrofit solutions that enhance social value, environmental and financial sustainability.
• Develop strategic alignments between SET’s operational model and social impact with current and emerging policies, programmes, and strategies from Local Authorities.
• Responsible for interpreting and visualising complex architectural and spatial data, translating technical information into accessible formats for non-specialist audiences such as community partners, funders, and policy stakeholders, to demonstrate the social impact of proposed retrofit models.
• Analyse and contribute to the development of SET’s surplus-generating model by understanding the charitable financial model, evaluating the financial performance of studio retrofit projects and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, and social impact.
• Engage with artists, community partners, and funders to understand their spatial, financial, and social needs, and apply these insights to shape project design and delivery within the multi-stakeholder KTP framework.

This KTP project aims to develop, test and implement a scalable, sustainable framework for identifying, securing and retrofitting temporarily vacant buildings into artist studios, addressing unmet demand from artists and generating additional surpluses for the charity.
