Job description
This KTP addresses the need to improve operational efficiencies and workforce capabilities in solar PV installations by deploying commercial decision making. This project supports UPOWA’s plans for growth and contributes to UK net zero and housebuilding aligned with the Future Homes Standard.
To commercialise the outputs of the KTP, UPOWA will undertake significant post project investments focused on scaling delivery capacity, and sustaining strategic change defined by the Associate. This will enhance UPOWA’s agility, enabling it to adapt to changing market conditions and explore new opportunities in retrofit and commercial solar markets.
Project description
This KTP will aim to improve operational efficiencies and workforce capabilities in solar PV installations by deploying commercial decision making, whilst aiming to deliver transformative commercial impacts for UPOWA, enabling the business to scale sustainably, and respond effectively to regulatory and market shifts. The KTP will also focus on delivering a wide range of benefits beyond commercial growth, supporting UPOWA’s strategic development, sector leadership, and contribution to national sustainability goals.
About the business
This project supports UPOWA’s strategic aim to become a national leader in sustainable energy for housebuilding by embedding scalable operational frameworks, digital transformation, and risk management capabilities. Despite strong regional growth, UPOWA faces operational constraints and fragmented systems that limit its ability to meet rising demand and regulatory requirements.
The Future Homes Standard mandates solar PV on new builds from 2027, creating a surge in demand. However, the UK market is saturated with inexperienced installers, risking poor quality and undermining sector credibility. UPOWA requires targeted academic expertise to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions and meet net-zero targets.
The KTP will embed new capabilities including a standardised operational framework, real-time capacity planning, strategic risk mapping, and digital readiness tools. These will be delivered through structured knowledge transfer, training, and documentation, enabling UPOWA to scale sustainably and differentiate through quality and compliance.
